About Doing Your Taxes
The maze of tax forms you must wade
through can seem overwhelming, and following the rules can seem
impossible. But take heart: The IRS has worked hard in recent years
to try to simplify the process for most taxpayers. Not only that,
but there are many organizations that offer free help.
Filing incorrectly may bring heavy penalties, so it's important to
take advantage of all the help you can get. You may want to hire a
professional tax preparer if you can afford it. Using a professional
can result in tax savings and the reassurance that your return
should be filed correctly.
Generally, the IRS requires that you file a tax return by April 15
of each year unless you request an extension in writing. Save and
categorize all of your deductions throughout the year so you will be
organized and ready to file when the time comes.
Finding a place to "get your taxes done" is like buying a new car.
Ask questions and make sure that you find a place or individual
accountant that will NOT just treat you like a number. Some of us
have very simple tax returns (W-2s and no dependants) and some of us
have complicated tax returns (W-2s, mortgages, stocks and bonds,
rental property, etc…). You need to do what is best for you based on
your situation. Just like anything…you pay for what you get. If you
have a lot of deductions, and you go to "Joe Schmoe's Tax Service"
and pay only $30.00, well, don't expect for Mr. Joe to do much work.
Do your research and do what is best for you based on your filing
situation and you will be happier in the end…and possibly have more
money in your pocket.

the courage to question & challenge the status quo... refuse to
accept "traditional" thinking and answers as fact....
