The December 2010 Blizzard

Well winter is here again. The snow storm after Christmas was proof of that. Thankfully it happened after the holiday, otherwise it would have been ruined. Oh not by the snow, but by the lack of response by the local government. That’s right, the snow fell, and the government, whom I paid taxes too, failed to plow my street. Now lets be real here, I am under no illusion that the roads will get paved in an hour, or two, or even twelve to fourteen hours, but twenty four! Really! Why am I paying taxes! WTF!!!

So like so many I stayed home and watched the news, and waited. Apparently I wasn’t the only one in this predicament. I watched and saw the failings of governments elsewhere as well. Did I mention I waited? SO WTF?!? happened? Again we pay taxes for certain services right?

Why am I writing this now? Cause it took me this long to calm down, and to write something other than curses and swears. So why did this happen? In so many places? Well the theory I'm subscribing too is the following. Over the course of the year, our governments have trimmed the work force and hired more managers. What’s wrong with this? Managers make the few remaining workers work more efficiently, and the tax payer loves more efficient government right? So what happened with the snow? Well, the managers were in their command centers, snuggled with care, drinking warm cocoa, sitting by the maps. The few remaining workers (you know the over paid civil service workers no one wants to give money too) were freezing in their trucks, driving along, doing their job. Alas there were too few workers to plow all the roads, and not a care was given by those managers by the maps. So the phones rang and the citizens screamed, so the managers yelled, ON SMITH, ON STEVENS, ON JONES!!!!

In the end mother nature took care of the problem with a warm weekend, and all was well. Right? I mean this won’t happen again right? Right? RIGHT?!!!
