Author: Sandra Pianin, Renown Web ColumnistLed Zeppelin Goes for Digital Distribution
|
One of the last
major music groups to hold out against digital distribution has
decided to release their back catalog online. On November 13,
2007, Led Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown," "Whole Lotta
Love" and "Stairway to Heaven" will be available from online
music stores. The same day the band will release a two CD
retrospective "Mothership."
Guitarist, Jimmy Page, said,
"we are pleased that the complete Led Zeppelin catalog will now
be available digitally." He also said, "the addition of the
digital option will better enable fans to obtain our music in
whichever fashion they prefer."
Led Zeppelin has also signed a
separate deal with Verizon Wireless. Verizon will offer their
songs as ring tones and downloads to mobile phones.
The highest profile holdout for
digital distribution is the Beatles.
