About Long Island Economy

Long Island Economy (LI Economy) is a Long Island-focused platform dedicated to helping people discover, understand, and connect with the businesses, properties, services, institutions, and communities that make Nassau and Suffolk County unique.

We believe local information should be easier to find, easier to understand, and organized around the needs of the people who live and work here.

Since 2005, we have been building toward that goal — more than two decades of work rooted in Long Island, not a national portal treating every market the same. While our roots are in business discovery, our vision is much larger: creating a centralized Long Island resource that helps residents, business owners, property owners, buyers, sellers, students, commuters, and community organizations navigate everyday life on the island.

What we do

Long Island Economy brings together information that is often scattered across dozens of separate websites, agencies, departments, and platforms.

Our goal is to make Long Island easier to explore by providing a single place to discover:

  • Local businesses
  • Real estate listings
  • Classifieds
  • Community events
  • Local news
  • Schools and school districts
  • Colleges and universities
  • Libraries
  • Utilities and service providers
  • Transportation resources
  • LIRR stations and transit information
  • Government and municipal services
  • Property information
  • Elections and representation
  • Community organizations and local resources

Business directory

The business directory remains the foundation of Long Island Economy.

Businesses can create listings, claim profiles, provide information about their services, and apply for LI Economy Verified status through our review process.

We believe local discovery works best when people can trust what they find. Listings and verification requests are reviewed by humans to help maintain accuracy, accountability, and quality.

Real estate & property

Long Island Economy serves buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, agents, and brokerages throughout Nassau and Suffolk County.

Users can explore properties, discover local neighborhoods, and connect with real estate opportunities across the region.

As part of our long-term vision, we are developing the Property Engine (PE), a property intelligence platform designed to connect parcels, tax districts, school districts, municipal services, permit authorities, utilities, elections, transportation resources, and community information into a single property record.

Community marketplace

Our classifieds platform helps Long Islanders buy, sell, promote, hire, and connect locally.

Whether you are offering a service, selling an item, promoting an opportunity, or searching for work, the goal is to keep local commerce local.

Events & community life

Long Island Economy provides a shared calendar of community events, festivals, fundraisers, markets, business events, networking opportunities, and local gatherings.

We want to help residents discover what is happening throughout Nassau and Suffolk County while giving organizations a platform to reach local audiences.

News & information

Our news dashboard aggregates Long Island and business-related headlines while laying the groundwork for future community-driven contributions.

Over time, we plan to expand opportunities for volunteers, contributors, and community organizations to help share local stories, knowledge, and information.

Municipal & public information

We believe residents should not have to search through dozens of government websites to find basic information about the communities where they live.

Long Island Economy is working to make local government and municipal information easier to navigate by connecting users with:

  • Town governments
  • Village governments
  • County services
  • Building departments
  • Permit authorities
  • School districts
  • Library districts
  • Utility providers
  • Transportation agencies
  • Election information
  • Public representatives
  • Community resources

Our goal is not to replace government services, but to make them easier to discover and access.

Human-curated by design

Long Island Economy is built around the belief that local communities deserve local judgment.

Important decisions such as business verification, listing review, and community standards remain guided by people rather than automated approval systems.

Technology helps organize information, but trust is built through accountability, transparency, and human review.

Our vision

Long Island Economy is part of the broader LICON initiative. Our mission is to build the digital infrastructure for Long Island commerce, property, community life, and civic engagement.

We are focused on Nassau and Suffolk County first — a platform designed specifically for Long Island, with 21 years of history behind us and a roadmap that continues to expand what residents can find in one place.

By bringing together businesses, properties, public information, transportation, schools, community resources, and local services, we hope to make Long Island easier to navigate, easier to understand, and stronger for everyone who calls it home.
